How Does Air Operated Diaphragm Pump Work?
The working of the SS AODD Pump is fairly simple. Compressed air gets applied alternatively to each of the 2 diaphragms back. This is controlled by the fully operative pneumatic air valve or the air distribution system. The diaphragms are used for securing the thrust tube. This implies that the pressure gets placed on the diaphragm’s back, which is pushed forward. Since it gets attached to the thrust tube, the opposite diaphragm moves backward at a similar speed. Since the thrust tube, assembly, or diaphragm moves backward and fore, it gives an alternative air signal to the overall air valve and switches.
This then ends up producing a highly negative pressure on the liquid chambers. Post which, the atmospheric pressure tries to equalize the pressure both inside and outside the liquid chamber. Any liquid placed between the atmosphere and liquid chamber under the negative pressure gets pushed into the wet chamber. This ends up lifting the delivery ball.
At a similar time, positive pressure gets generated on the opposite side of the liquid chamber. This positive pressure pushes right down to the bottom – inlet balls. This seals the suction manifold, which forces the liquid against the top – outlet balls in the wet chamber. This leads to lifting and forcing the liquid via the delivery out of the pump. This process keeps repeating till the time the compressed air does not get supplied to the pump.
